Photography - Photographic Filters

Filters. Do we need them? What are they good for? How many types are there? Are some better than others? How do you know which one to use and for what?

Lot's of questions. Hopefully, by the time you are done reading this, you'll have a few answers to go along with those questions.

Actually, the most common use of filters is to protect the lens of the camera, some of which are very delicate. Most photographers use either UV, 1A or 1B filter for this purpose. For example, if a delicate lens gets hit with too much sunlight, the UV light can damage the lens. The UV filter keeps that particular light from reaching the lens. It's kind of like the principal of wearing sun glasses so that your eyes don't get damaged by the sun.

But there are also other types of filters that you can use that have nothing to do with protecting your lens but in getting certain types of effects from your photos.

First we have what are called correction filters. There are many different types of correction filters and while we can't possibly go over each type, we'll cover a few just to give you an idea of what they do.

One example of a correction filter is a green filter. This is used for black and white film because this film is less sensitive to red light than the human eye. To correct this we use a light green filter, though a yellow filter can also be used.

There are actually many different color filters depending on the kind of shot that you are going for. If you've ever watched movies with scenes that seemed to be shot to make the scene look like a bright blue, this is done through the use of a color filter. This is one of the most common filters used for photography both in still photos and in movies and television.

Another type of filter that is very common is what is called the temperature filter. These filters are used to produce either a cooling or warming effect. One example of use would be on a photo taken on a very cold snowy winter day. A warming filter would be used to give the shot more of a warm effect in spite of the snow on the ground.

Effects filters are very widely used by photographers who are looking to add some zip to their photos to make them less bland. These effects include things like starbursts and diffusions. Care must be taken when using effects filters as they can become tedious after a while. Combining certain effects can be very effective.

Polarizing filters are used to cut down reflections from various light sources like the sun. These filters actually produce an exaggerated color saturation in images. Therefore they should be used carefully. While taking photos with these filters, they need to be rotated while you observe the image in order to get the desired effect.

These are the most common types of filters, but there are others. By experimenting with each you can get a very good idea of the types of effects that you can get with your camera. Before you know it, you'll be taking photos for NASA.

The Secrets to Teaching Children With Autism

Autism is a developmental disorder that can affect anyone. Although genetic factors are claimed to be the most powerful ones behind it, there are several other things that can actually bring about the development of autism. Despite the disability involved when one has autism, teaching autistic children is still possible using techniques that are sure to work.

One of the most debilitating characteristics of autism is the learning disabilities that come with it. When it comes to teaching children with autism, hard is really an understatement. The whole effort to teach children who have this disorder is definitely going to involve not just a mountain but mountain ranges to conquer.

When determining the teaching strategies to use, a teacher can take note of the different symptoms of autism that can impede the natural learning process. Ample knowledge of such symptoms can make the strategy and teaching process effective. There is no assurance that it is going to be easy though.

Here are some of the factors that need attention and thorough consideration to success in the aim of teaching children with autism.

1. Teaching environment. Because of autism, children find it hard to concentrate especially in the presence of loud noises and colors. They get easily distracted by such elements. Therefore, it is a must that the classroom or wherever the teaching process takes place should be kept at its plainest form. It should also be quiet and peaceful enough in order to help keep the children feel the same.

2. Routine activities. Children with autism cannot handle surprises. The daily activities should follow a certain routine. The kids have a good idea of what is going to happen next. This is the only way for them to concentrate and learn.

3. Limited options. When making the children choose something, it is important to keep everything simple. They should not be subjected to a number of choices. It is very easy for them to get all confused over many selections. In the end, they learn nothing and might even feel bad about the whole process. Letting the child pick one over the other is the best way to do it.

4. Simple communication. Using simple words is the best way to get the points across and completely understood by these young autistic kids. More so, one should maintain a lower voice since loud ones tend to agitate these children.

Autism in itself is a hard thing to deal with. However, it should not be something that limits what a child can do. Although their learning abilities might be limited, children with autism still have the capacity to learn. After all, autism is not equal to being stupid. In fact, many autistic children are very proficient and talented in certain areas. All it takes is a greater amount of effort and patience from the teachers.

What is it About Maps?

Have you ever looked at a map and become totally interested and scanned each area over and over again, memorizing the landscape, names of towns, streets, cities and states? Have you ever picked up a giant Atlas book and spent hours looking it over? If you have you are certainly not alone and when looking down on a map or map book it's almost like an aerial view of things. Many people are so intrigued with maps that it is almost amazing.

If you love maps and map books, if you are someone who loves to use Google Earth and understand the layout of the land in relation to everything else, then let me recommend one of the best giant atlas books that I have ever seen. In fact this is the Atlas that I own myself;

"The Times Atlas of the World; Comprehensive Edition" by John Bartholomew & Son, LTD Edinburgh; 1967

Each country and state is listed along with all the major cities in each. All the resources are also listed, populations as well. Energy resources, natural resources, agricultural resources, weather and animal distribution. The Moon's map is also in this book, along with all the ocean floors to the best of mankind's ability at the time of publication. Earthquake faults, volcanoes and every island, all included. The Atlas has broken the world by continent and region, with information about each.

Although, the boundary lines and names of many nations have changed since then, this Atlas is spectacular in every regard, it's where I go to answer questions about our World, even before I hit the Internet for the updated information. Get an atlas for your family and you'll be glad you did.

Introducing The Commercial Mortgage

A commercial mortgage is similar to a personal residential loan in that it is a mortgage secured by real property. From there, however, things differ greatly. The two loans might as well be estranged for all the differences between them.

The process of obtaining a commercial loan is similar to a residential loan when looking at the bare skeleton of the process. You find a property, file a mortgage application and then negotiate till you get acceptable financing. The devil with commercial mortgages is in the details and it can be a real devil.

Most commercial mortgages are taken out by businesses, not individuals. As a result, determining the credit worthiness of a particular borrower can be a tricky process. Much due diligence is undertaken by the prospective lenders. Capital in the form of other real estate or secured assets can be required. Alternatively, borrowers can look for brokers that work with Fannie Mae, USDA, SBA and FHA to obtain government backing. These entities usually do not write loans directly, but they will guarantee part or all of them. That makes you a much better risk for a lender, which means your chance of getting financed are much better as well.

A key area to consider with a commercial mortgage is the recourse factor. There is both recourse and non-recourse financing available. Non-recourse financing restricts the lender from going after anything other than the property should a default occur. On the other hand, recourse financing offers no such restriction. You can easily guess which is best for your situation.

Commercial loans are commonly done as what are known as balloon and amortization mortgages. What does this mean? Few parties actually will hold a commercial loan for its full length, ie, 30 years. As a result, they loan is set up with a term that is much shorter. For instance, a 8 year term would require the borrower to make payments for 8 years and then make a balloon payment for the remaining balance. The monthly payment amounts, however, are determined by using a 30 year payment period, to wit, they are lower than one would get with an 8 year period.

Obtaining commercial loans often requires a deft touch. Make sure you take the time to investigate all the options available so that you not only obtain financing, but get a good deal as well.

Understanding Australian Opening Roof System

Australia is a beautiful country open with abundant sunlight and good weather. Harvesting natural e principle behind Australia opening roof system is quite simple. There are two screens; the lowesunlight and rainfall not only conserves the natural resources but is effective in reducing the costs of ventilation and artificial lighting. Australian opening roof systems are a good innovative design that is rapidly being incorporated by Greenhouse owners. Using Australian opening roof system has become a prime concern of greenhouse growers with stress being put on good ventilation as a paramount under Australian conditions.

As hot air moves up, roof is the main site for ventilation. Previously vents had been in use but a new roofing system by Living shade company that is marketing the Ludvig Syenson (LS) screen range has brought a revolution in ventilation systems. Thr screen is a thermal screen that functions to provide warm green house conditions while the upper screen provides shade.

Using these sliding roof screens either together or alternating them can provide a wide range of climatic conditions. The screens operate on independent levels with separate motors, computer control and thermostat. Lower screen has been manufactured as waterproof plastic thermal screen and the other screen is a solar shade screen.

The opening and closing of these screens are preset according to the temperature by the thermostat controls, wired back to the control units. Greenhouses maintain temperatures ranging from 20 to 25 degree Celsius. During the morning hours the temperature is 20 to 22 degree C so the lower or thermal screen and the upper or shade screen are open. This lets in maximum sunlight and air needed for the plants, making perfect growing conditions.

While during the day after the temperature reaches 25 degree C the top screen close but the lets the light in, while heat is reflected back by the aluminum on the screen. At night both screens are closed due to varying temperature. The flexibility which is available with Australian opening roof system and computerized environmental control that operates independently of human control.

Innovative ideas have increased production while reducing the cost of production. Harvesting natural sunlight and ventilation through Australia opening roof system has changed the greenhouse industry with computerized roof system with dual mode of being manually operated also.

Softball Tips on What to Eat to Achieve a Speedy Recovery

As a softball player, you need to be able to sprint not only when you run through the bases but also when you try to catch the ball after the batter has hit it. You need to be strong enough to hit the ball with the bat and drive it far from the defensive team. At the same time, you need to be able to think on your feet and be able to make split second decisions such as what strategy you are going to use in order to help your team win the game.

With all the activities that are going on in a softball game, they require you to have enough energy to do all of them. And so, after all of the seven innings, you would find yourself really tired. Your muscles would be sore and aching. And all you want to do is sit down and take a breather. Getting some rest after a game is good but what you do not know is that what you eat after the game or a workout is very important as the foods that you would consume can help you achieve a quick recovery and at the same time, improve your overall performance. And if you eat right, you would be able to replace whatever nutrients you lost after a strenuous activity.

To know the right foods to eat for this specific reason, here are some softball nutrition tips that I would share with you today.

Re-Fuel Yourself with Enough Calories

If you are already tired and you do not follow any nutrition recovery plan, it would be difficult for you to consume a sufficient amount of calories that would help restore your body's lost supply of glycogen. What you can do is that you can opt for fruit juices such as cranberry juice that would not only hydrate your body but they also contain calories as well as carbohydrates.

Also, if you are carefully monitoring your weight and you desire to lose a few pounds, then, it would be best for you to consume foods during the day so, that you would be able to get an effective workout. Afterwards, you can opt for a light meal at night and very few evening snacks. Be sure not to play softball or do a training session on an empty stomach because you would not get the results that you want from the game or workout.

Consume Foods Rich in Carbohydrates Thirty Minutes After the Game or Training Session

You need to replenish your body's lost supply of blood sugar and glycogen and to be able to do so, you need to eat foods that contain carbohydrates preferably thirty minutes after the game or workout. Your muscles use carbohydrates for fuel so, it is important for you to pack in carbohydrates after working hard on the field. You can munch on graham crackers as well as pretzels. However, if you have trouble eating solid food after a workout, then, opt for chocolate milk or fruit shakes.

Refrain from Eating Highly Fattening Foods

More often than not, concession stands sell foods that are easy to prepare and eat such as burgers, hot dogs and nacho chips. However, these foods contain a lot of fat that would do no good if you eat them. They would just make you feel sluggish and they would not properly re-fuel your body.

Repair Your Muscles by Eating Enough Protein

Your body specifically needs protein as it repairs torn muscle tissues and speeds up their growth. You can eat foods that are rich protein along with foods that contain carbohydrates such as cereal with milk, bagel with a spread of peanut butter and yogurt.

Drink Plenty of Fluids

When you play under the sun after an extended period of time, your body is sure to lose water that could easily lead to dehydration. So, it would be best for you to take sips of fluids even before you feel thirsty because otherwise, you might already be dehydrated. Be sure to drink plenty of water, fruit juices, sports drinks and fruit shakes.

And so, having a hard training session or a softball game can really take a toll on your body as it loses its supply of glycogen, causes dehydration as well as injuries but if you carefully follow the softball nutrition tips that I just gave you, you would surely be able to replenish whatever nutrients your body has lost and enjoy playing the game that you love.

Manufactured Home Construction Techniques - Examined

While the end results are quite similar, the way that a conventional home and a manufactured home are built is quite different. It is these inherent construction differences that are mainly responsible for the savings when buying a manufactured home.

Materials and Equipment are On Site

For one thing, all of the materials and equipment that go into building a manufactured home are supplied on site in a factory setting, verses having to be shipped in with a conventional home. Also, prefabricated home manufacturers often purchase their building materials by the train car load, which accounts for a substantial savings there also.

Working From the Floor Up

The first stage of building a manufactured home is the construction of the main steel frame and the wheel base. After this is done then the floor will be sheeted with plywood and screwed down. After this is done the measurements for the walls are taken and chalk lines snapped.

The Walls are Stood In Place

Framed walls that are pre-built in another area of the manufacturing facility are then brought in, stood up and attached in place to the floor. The next stage will be the wiring, ducting and plumbing and the attachment of the roof framing system.

The List of Custom Features

The home is then sided and the finishing process begins. There will be list of custom features that each customer has ordered installed in their custom home that is being built and this list will be used as the home is finished out.

The Final Phase is Completed

Flooring, paneling and kitchen and bathroom fixtures will all be installed to the clients exact specifications. Then the final details will be tended to and everything is tested and inspected before the home is given a final inspection and sent on to be installed on a lot.

Six Basic Needs of Children, Adolescents and Adults

It doesn't matter what stage of life you are in, everyone has the same basic needs. These needs are physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual, and creative. When all of these needs are satisfied, you'll discover that your life is brimming with joy and good feelings. You'll find your self-esteem at its highest peak whenever you are fulfilled within your daily life and activities.

Physical Needs: These needs are the basics. The need for air, water, sleep, exercise, and sex.

Emotional Needs: This is the need for praise, love, trust, security, feeling OK inside, and self-fulfilled.

Social Needs: This is the need for companionship and friendship. This is usually gained from a peer group.

Intellectual Needs: This is the need for challenging thoughts, reading, learning something new, and mind stimulation.

Spiritual Needs: This is the quiet need inside that wants to know and believe in a higher spiritual power than ourselves. This need increases our awareness and sensitivity to the greater aspects of life.

Creative Needs: This is the need to express yourself in any manner you desire. This can include the arts, dancing, acting, and writing - almost anything that allows you to feel imaginative and inspired.

All of the above needs are usually a part of every human's life. All of us want to have these needs met in life. Having these needs met increases our enjoyment of living and creates a healthy body and soul. So how do parents fulfill these needs in their growing children? The first way is to become aware that the needs of a child are the same as yours. Being empathetic to your child at all times creates a bond that nurtures the needs of your child. For example, whenever your child wants to create or make something, allow your attention to center on your child and give him whatever you think will help to inspire your child's creativity.

My children loved to create drawings on large pieces of paper. I helped them do this by supplying them with the all the paper, crayons, paint, brushes, etc. necessary to stimulate their minds. Then I let them go to it! It was exciting to watch my child create a masterpiece of their imagination. Their artwork was sweet, beautiful and full of ingenuity. I then posted the artwork all around the house to show to their siblings and guests. As a parent, it was my goal to communicate with my child that I truly understood and valued his desires and feelings to be creative. I empowered my child to become all that he can be at that moment. This process immediately shows your child that his opinions and thoughts are valued.

By empowering your child, you are allowing your child to take ownership of their feelings, take responsibility for their behavior, make decisions that help them grow, follow through with commitments and most importantly, to become aware of the needs and feelings of others. You are giving your child the chance to experience success and understand his own uniqueness. It's rewarding for a child, adolescent and adult to have recognition and respect. By empowering yourself, as well as your child, you are fostering basic needs that truly make you glow inside and out.

At different times in our lives, we are capable of doing certain things. Stay tuned to where your child's capabilities are during his childhood and supply the above needs according to his stage in life. In fact, developmental stages continue right into old age. When a child's needs are met, his discomforts and fears are quickly removed and he finds that his life is truly a safe and fun place to be. This feeling leads to a child that learns to trust his environment and each successive stage of development.

Know that meeting these six needs in your child's life is not hard to do at any stage. Getting involved in your child's exploration of his life doesn't take money, but it does take thoughtfulness and time. Providing these needs throughout your child's lifetime allows your child to go through his stages of life with a healthy regard for himself and for society. It encourages your child's autonomy and capacity to do more with is his lifetime. Who can ask for more?
